Getting Better
Wednesday, July 31, 2002

The Links Page and the Feedback Page are now much smarter and easier to use in the new design and format. Things are looking up. However, I'm most disapointed I haven't found a new 'gadget' today. I guess yesterday's, MadPlayer, was a pretty big find, so maybe that's a week's worth!

An O-l-d friend of mine left a message on the TagBoard yesterday; a real blast from the past. Shows this Web stuff occasionally has it's uses. I'll call him tonight, sometime.

All About Archives And Amazing Artifacts
Tuesday, July 30, 2002

Whoopee. Got the Archives working in the new design at last. None of my historical (or should that be hysterical) drivel can now be escaped. Gosh, aren't I made ridiculously happy by the simplest 'geeky' things? I'm a very sad person; it's just that I'm supposed to know what I'm doing, so I suppose it's got to work.

On another subject, I found another AMAZING GADGET (note caps) last week. You have to see it - or rather hear it - to believe it. It's a smart, well designed little pocketable unit that: Plays MP3s (and a couple of other formats) records and plays back voice AND Makes Up Music! Yep - invents in 'on the spot' - in just about any style you like, using a bank of around 500 different digitised instruments. The sounds it makes are strange, but are still strangely listenable. Imagine infinite hours of music, just for you, that nobbody else may ever hear!

Want to hear it inventing music? Click HERE (1.8mb - it's the company demo file). OK, so what is it? It's called MadPlayer and you can read about it HERE. Unbelieveable. I want one. Now! :)

Kate Won Big Brother (UK)
Sunday, July 28, 2002

As I said below, I wanted Kate to win BB, I also said I'd post the winner's name here. So as the headline says, Kate won it - and Jonny, my second favourite, came second. I guess that makes me boringly average, as it appears I agree with the majority of the British public. :)

Video Blog?

I think I may have a bright idea that could catch on. How about a Video Blog? I discovered a new gadget. Click Here to have a look. For £79.95 you can buy a miniature digital video camera that takes three minutes of video and can upload to a PC, and thus the Web. How about a Video Web Log? I reckon I'd need about 100mb of web space to take enough clips to keep a month or so's worth available. So... I bought the domain name videoblog.net ! (Someone already has videoblog.com - shame.)

Having got the basic name, I could create sub versions such as june.videoblog.com and charles.videoblog.com (etc.). It might even become a commercial project. With that much disk space required however, it would need to be chargeable. Would you pay for such a thing> What if I arranged to have the camera and software supplied as part of the deal? Just a thought, but with Broadband becoming more widely available, maybe it's an idea whose time has come. Email me here with your opinions - please! :)

TV Commercials Music

If you're in the UK, you can't have failed to notice two TV commercials around at the moment. I like them particularly because of the music they feature. The first is the T.Mobile Picture Messaging ad' (the one with the picture of the baby everywhere across what appears to be an American city). The other is the Nissan Primera ad' (with the dolphins leaping out of the wet road alongside the car). Very original sound tracks - each of them. I'll try and find out if they're available commercially and if so I'll buy them. I might even post a short MP3Pro segment on the music page for you to listen to.

Atmosphere Newsletter Out Later Today
Friday, July 26, 2002

Edition 11 of the Adobe Atmosphere User's Own Newsletter will be out later today. My co-editor Andrew Harvey has been so busy moving house, he's had little time to spare for it but, edition eleven is now ready to roll. I posted a notice in the Adobe Atmosphere Forum so people can sign-up right until the last minute. I'll send it out late today. If you're interested in 3D chat worlds on the Web, you could do worse than sign up yourself and start to use Atmosphere - see the links in the left hand bar also.

Kate to Win BB
Thursday, July 25, 2002

This will seem very dated - even by tomorrow, but OK, I'm hooked on 'Big Brother' (UK). I want Kate to win - if not Kate, then Jonny. I'll tell you who does, sometime on Saturday. :)

Amazing Facts

Funny how sometimes you seem to hear a whole string of unrelated but amazing facts. Some I've picked up this week include; Over half of the people on planet earth have never spoken on a telephone. The rubbish collected in a New York City landfill is now 50 times the volume of the Egyptian pyramids. Amazingly, only 3% of the world's population have ever flown in an aeroplane. It makes you realise how the 'West' is separated by more than mere miles from the 'East'.

New Design
Thursday, July 18, 2002

It's taken me about two years but I've finally got around to redesigning my Web site. What do you think? No, perhaps you'd better not answer that! I excuse myself by saying I was trying out new stuff so often, it wasn't worth doing. Anyhow, I've made the effort and amongst other changes, the Web Log is now here on the Home Page. There's also a nifty little thing over there on the right - you can leave a message for everyone who visits to see - right here and now. If I get any obscene comments I'll remove it, but for the moment, we'll see what happens. All I have to do now is make all the other pages match! :-)
