Story from MSNBC
Friday, May 24, 2002

I'm probably breaking all sorts of copyright rules here and maybe even breaking the law, but as I found this story on MSNBC, I reckon it's in the public domain by now. I thought this was very amusing. The story is that technology buffs have cracked music publishing giant Sony Music’s elaborate disc copy-protection technology by scribbling around the rim of a disk with a felt-tip marker! Internet news groups have been circulating news of the discovery for the past week, and in typical newsgroup style, users have pilloried Sony for deploying “hi-tech” copy protection that can be defeated by paying a visit to a stationery store. “I wonder what type of copy protection will come next?” one posting read. “Maybe they’ll ban markers.” Apparently, Sony did not return calls seeking comment.

Scottish Executive

Workwise, things are manic right now. Elcom is an eProcurement service provider and we've recently been awarded the contract (via CGE&Y) to provide an 'eGovernment' eProcurement service for the entire Government of Scotland. We believe this to be the largest eCommerce contract in the world to date. There was a great article published this week in Computer Headline about it. Have a look if you're interested: Click Here.
