Matáv Rt has launched its fixed-line SMS service allowing users to send and receive short text messages on their fixed-line telephones. If the recipient of a Fixed SMS does not have a telephone suitable for receiving a text message, the SMS will be transmitted as a voice message using text-to-speech technology. I think it's a great idea. A standard SMS message costs 10p which is a fixed fee and is more than enough to say "I'll be late", or "Pick me up at 7". Great idea - I'll buy one and the intermediate service of SMS to voice systhesis is clever, too.
